Judging by the reaction of participants, the first Restaurant Marketing 2000: Build the Buzz conference, sponsored by Susie Biehler & Co., was a huge success with restaurateurs and marketing professionals alike. Master of Ceremonies Gene Burns of KGO's "Dining with Gene Burns" led members of the San Francisco restaurant community through an information-packed program.

Expert panels addressed major aspects of the industry including brand development, use of technology, and working with the media. Participants benefited from the experience of local and national food industry stars, and were entertained by active panel discussions and audience participation.

A long-time proponent of the development of a close restaurant community, conference producer Susie Biehler brought together a small army of experts to share their knowledge and experiences with each other and with the audience.

Attendees included restaurant owners, chefs, general managers, restaurant suppliers, members of the media, and marketing and PR professionals. Not just a lesson in marketing, the day also included a networking lunch by Anzu and an industry cocktail reception to allow every participant to develop relationships, make new contacts, and share ideas.

A core goal of the conference was to build a solid community in the food industry in the Bay area. In her opening address Susie Biehler stressed the importance of developing this restaurant community.

Throughout the day a theme and a feeling of cooperative competition encouraged lively dialogue between speakers and participants. With attendees ranging from experienced marketing professionals to hopeful restaurant owners, there was something to interest everyone.

The evening culminated in a community service awards presentation honoring outstanding restaurateurs for their contributions in the non-profit arena.
