Michele
Mandell,
Writing, Positioning, Media Relations
After studying mass communications at UC Berkeley, Michele spent the first 12
years of her career in high-tech PR. One day she realized that the stacks of
food magazines, cookbooks and dog-eared restaurant gossip columns obscuring every
surface in her house could no longer be ignored. Already referred to as “Martha” among
friends, owing to her over-the top dinner parties (complete with homemade “toothpick
flags” indicating the pedigree of each item on the cheese platter), Michele
bid farewell to her clients and enrolled in the six-month professional culinary
program at Tante Marie’s Cooking School in San Francisco.
Armed with a solid knowledge of the fundamental principles of classical cooking,
Michele went on to complete a kitchen internship at Zibibbo in Palo Alto and
then handled marketing and special events for The Village Pub, an award-winning
restaurant in Woodside. She now brings the strong organizational skills honed
in her former high-tech life to her writing and public relations work in the
restaurant industry. Michele collaborates on projects with Susie Biehler & CO
in addition to handling her own clients. She is also a contributing writer for
DiningOut SF magazine.
